It's Week #12: A Chair

We’re really going off-script this week! This week’s challenge was inspired by a thread in our Facebook Photography Group, where a new Framer tossed out the idea of having a challenge revolve around a single, simple, tangible object. This way we can get everyone’s different perspective on a specific thing.

Sure, on the surface level this challenge may seem one-dimensional but there’s actually some amazing things you can capture this week. You need to lose the box. Really. You’ll feel so much lighter.

Tips and Tuts:

  • A nice stroll down Google land and I’m overcome with so many great ideas: a chair in an empty room with hard lighting, an abandoned chair, a grandma in a rocking chair, levitating chairs, a balanced chair, juggling chairs, a dentist’s chair.
Bring a model into the mix, and now you have so many more options: silhouette, balancing on the chair, posing on the chair, etc…
  • An art project within a photography project? Thanks to Camille for sharing this inspirational link on teeny-tiny home-made chairs.

Extra Credit: Studio Portrait

For some extra credit joojoo, set up a studio portrait. A chair is a great basis for getting an interesting studio shot. From an introspective pose to a sexy pose, there’s a lot you can do for this week’s challenge, so get those lights out and get crackin’!

Check out the Googles for some more inspiration.

Remember, it is not necessary to work in this Extra Credit piece. It’s extra credit!
