It's Week #23: Abstract

 Tips and Tuts:

  • While abstract does not have to be macro, getting very close to your subject will make allow you to fill your frame with just your subject, thereby eliminating all outside factors which might give your photo more definition
  • Check out Eva Polak‘s beautiful impressionist photography, and try your own by setting a longer shutter speed (around 1/20 or so), and moving your hand slightly as you are shooting
  • Check out these cool tips for “iPhoneography” (can be done with a camera as well!)
  • Use random objects as filters. Shoot through a screen, a bottle, a rain splattered window, anything that gives you an idea of what’s on the other side, without giving away what it really is

Extra Credit: Paint/Ink photography!

For some extra credit joojoo, try your hand at paint or ink photography! This cool technique is achieved by essentially pouring ink or paint into water, and capturing the designs it creates. This can take time and be messy, so be patient! Check out this tutorial, and this one too, to find out how to achieve this cool shot!

Check out the Googles for some more inspiration.

Remember, it is not necessary to work in this Extra Credit piece. It’s extra credit!

*Please note!! You can only submit ONE photo per week, for the week’s challenge. This photo can include the “Extra Credit” part of the challenge, or the “regular” challenge, but you can never submit more than one photo!
