It's Week #30: Calm

Life is loud. Life is hard. We all need to “check-out” every once in a while. Take a breath. Take 5, 10, heck, take 30 minutes, and just…be calm.

What does that look like for you? Your job this week is to capture a moment of calm. Find an activity that calls out your inner calm, and find a way to uniquely capture it for the community to see!

It can be an activity: A bath? A book? A beer?

It can be an object: Prayer beads? Candles? Feet in the sand?
It can be a human subject: closed eyes, a meditation pose, a lover’s embrace.

What inspires your inner peace? Capture it.

 

 

 Tips and Tuts for this week:

  • Go to the beach. Whether you love sand or hate it, there is almost nothing as relaxing as sitting by the ocean, listening to the waves.
  • Try some yoga! Check out these beginner poses or these more advanced ones. But don’t try to force your body into a pose!! Yoga is meant to relax, not strain. :)
  • Keep colors and composition in mind. A lot of negative space will help craft your story of calm.Warm colors will invoke a certain emotion as well. Also, try your hand at the “Extra Credit” this week, “High-Key” which automatically gives a sense of calmness.Looking for more inspiration? Check out The Googles! Oh you sweet Googles.

 

Extra Credit: High Key!

For some extra credit joojoo, try utilizing a “High-Key” technique in your photo! As we learned in Week 20: High Key, a high key photo is an image with a lot more white than black. This will usually give your photo a dreamy and happy look. Take a look at that album for some inspiration.

Check out the Googles for some more inspiration. 

Remember, it is not necessary to keep this Extra Credit challenge in mind while shooting. It’s extra credit!

*Please note!! You can only submit ONE photo per week, for the week’s challenge. This photo can include the “Extra Credit” part of the challenge, or the “regular” challenge, but you can never submit more than one photo!
