Sometimes, the world gets to be too much. Too much negativity, too much anger, too much judgement. At times like these, we need to take a moment, and remember all of the things we are grateful for, all of the things that make the world better for us. This week, your task is to capture what it is that makes you grateful, what it is that makes you smile, and makes your world just a little bit brighter.

Tips and Tuts for this week:

  • Think about what you are grateful for. How can you capture this in a photograph? This can be a person, a hobby, a place, anything. Something that makes you thankful whenever you see it.
  • Note that the photo can simply be an object. This challenge is not necessarily to try and convey the emotion of gratitude, which is a bit more difficult, but you are free to do so.
  • Tell a story with your photo. Are you grateful for a specific friend? What makes them special to you?
  • Don’t forget to use the techniques we’ve learned over the past few months. Want to focus on one small object? Try utilizing negative space. Photographing a specific location? Use the rule of thirds to compose your photo. (bonus if you combine challenges!)

Extra Credit: On the Street

For some extra credit joojoo, find some gratitude out on the streets! It’s amazing how many beautiful moments you can find when you just look around. See the smile of a child whose parent just gave them a cookie. The look of gratitude in the homeless man’s face as the stranger gave him a cup of coffee. Or the joy of the people leaving their offices after a long day of work. Gratitude. It’s everywhere!

Remember, it is not necessary to keep this Extra Credit challenge in mind while shooting. It’s extra credit!

*Please note!! You can only submit ONE photo per week, for the week’s challenge. This photo can include the “Extra Credit” part of the challenge, or the “regular” challenge, but you can never submit more than one photo!
