Don’t be scared of it! We see it all around us, even at night. This week our challenge it capture an interesting or unique shadow. There are tons of shapes and combinations of ideas you can play with, let your imagination run wild and have fun with it.

Tips and Tuts for this week:

  • Use a light! This may be obvious but the sun isn’t the only thing you should be chasing this week. Whether it’s a lamp or a strobe, play with light and I promise the shadow shall follow.
  • Golden hour is your friend! That hour before sunset will not only give you rich, golden colors, but will also give you lovely, long shadows. Get low and snap away.
  • Craft a story! From hand puppets to a crime scene, there’s much you can do with the play of shadow. Let your mind wander.

Extra Credit: Flash Behind Your Subject!

For some extra credit joojoo, position the subject of your photo in front of your flash! By positioning a flash behind your subject, you can create long, dramatic shadows, while also creating a nice ‘rim light’ on your subject. You can also try placing a mirror in front of your subject to use the reflection as light number two!
