Week 8: Complementary Colors!
Extra Challenge: Product Photography

Just the facts: Choose 2 opposing colors on this color wheel to create your photo. The most popular color combos are: red/green ❤️ ?, blue/orange ??, and purple/yellow ??. Your photo should be taken BY YOU during this week of the challenge.
Opposites attract! Complementary Colors are colours that sit opposite each other in a color wheel. The important thing about Complementary Colors - or Complementary Contrast - is the fact that they intensify each other. Red and Green, Orange and Blue, Yellow and Purple are Complementary and used together they have their brightest intensity, so they really pop! That is why, in photography, we’re looking for Complementary Colors and that is this week’s challenge.
So for this challenge you consult a color wheel (the RYB model that we prefer) and chose your pair of colors. It doesn’t have to be the ones mentioned above, it can be any color and it's opposite in the wheel you showcase. Use the color coding website , find the exact opposite of your chosen color and ensure they complement (enhance) each other in your shot. This way, you'll make your colors pop.

Find the story, the feeling, the mood your chosen colors invoke. Complementary Colors can be all about harmony, but they can also provide a lot of tension or aggression, even. Explore the correlation between your chosen colors. How does that make you feel?

TIPS:
- Color Wheel: Use a color wheel (we prefer the R Y B model, not the R G B one) to refer to combinations and pairs of complementary colors. You can print one out if you're old school or bookmark a webpage on your mobile phone to help.
- Embrace Bold Contrasts: Seek out subjects with strong color differences, such as red and green or blue and orange, to create striking visual impact in your photos.
- Play with Lighting: Experiment with lighting conditions, especially during the golden hours, to enhance the vibrancy and depth of complementary colors in your compositions.
- Focus on Details: Look for small elements or accents within a scene that feature complementary colors, adding surprise and intrigue to your photographs.
- Explore Colorful Environments: Visit vibrant locations like markets, festivals, or urban landscapes where a variety of complementary colors naturally coexist.
- Use Color Blocking Techniques: Arrange elements in your frame to emphasize distinct color blocks, helping to highlight the relationship between complementary hues.

Extra Challenge: Product Photography
Think the Main Challenge alone ain't worthy enough of your photog skillz? Sweet - try adding the EXTRA challenge along with the Main Challenge to showcase your abilities.
This week, we'd like to see Product Photography with Complementary Colors included.
Do remember, the EC is neither mandatory nor does it enhance your odds of being picked for any 52F honors. It's just an EXTRA challenge for you, if that's something you want to take on in addition to the Main Challenge. We intentionally design the Extra Challenge to be difficult for most, so only take this on if you are looking for an EXTRA challenge. Get it? It's extra. ?
