I did need to read the backstory to "get" the relationship to the lyrics, but your portrait of her works nicely to show that in spite of her skin challenges, she's a beautiful being. Since you said shred, the only thing I'd change is to remove some of the distraction in the background behind her to the left. But you really do show just the right perspective to make an image that fits the lyric.

I think her sweet face says so much: clean, healthy and relaxed. Your story is so dear and very relatable and moving to all of us that have adopted rescue animals. I like how the subdued, simple color palette adds to the feeling of calm.
