In a high contrast, silhouette photograph such as this--especially if that's exactly what you're...well, shooting for...there's a sweet spot of not too much and not too little intermediate grays. (He said, unscientifically.) Just enough to "sculpt" and avoid a paper cut-out that should have been a person. Sorry, this my verbose way of saying I thing you found that spot and produced a very compelling image.
