Artist Mark Rothko was my inspiration for this photo. He’s an abstract impressionist who worked in rectangular colour blocks. These ‘stripes’ are infinitely more simplistic than his amazing canvases, but I did think about juxtaposing the colours and keeping the lines simple.

    Your end result is a very compelling image with such a textured painterly feel. The way you have overlayed the exposures and blended them gives such an even flow of the colour tones..  I had no idea who Rothko was.. and you have have achieved a great effect -  so much learning from you all.

    It's a beautiful frame and a wonderful technique. I love the deliberate misalignment, it's subtle but aids the transition between colours, no harsh lines or division. This has a lot of depth and texture. It almost feels like a dry wash paint effect on wooden boards, another connection to a beach theme.. it's wonderful to appreciate something with a minimal subject that can keep the eye engaged for ages..
