I understood the weekly challenge as minimalist in the photographic ways, but it made me think of minimalist subject: the Swiss army knife with only a blade and a bottle opener.

I like your idea - and I'm very familiar with editing dusty or wrinkled black backgrounds, so I feel your pain :D I also like the composition and angle. I think I would have gone for either significantly larger aperture (to emphasize the focus on the Swiss cross), or significantly smaller (possibly even to the point of focus stacking if that's what I was trying to do) to get more/sharper DOF.
