    This is the photo by Irving Penn I used. On closer examination on the big screen it looks a lot as though the original photo was itself photographed through a sheet of glass. So it's almost impossible to gauge the actual white balance. Also, understanding the lighting is more difficult because of that. I studied the shadows and the dulln-ness of the photo which led me to my approach. If you like, take a look on my profile and compare this one with last week's one. You can see the difference in lighting very clearly side by side.

    Different lighting than with food photography. Lighting from above is usually not what you'd go for for food. It makes it look dull and shallow and not as palatable as lighting from the side. But this was wanted in this case. I was thinking of using a second light but as shadows were almost non-existent in the original photo, I left it out.
