“ Get stressed for success. ”
My phone rings. I don’t need to answer it to know what I have to do. I put my jacket on, check my tie, march upstairs and step into a room of inquisitional eyes. I try to not smile too much and make eye contact with everyone as I sit down and start to talk. I try to suppress my quivering vocal ...

The meeting ends and all is fine…..as it always is, but it’s not long before I’m doing a post-mortem. Why do I get so stressed, for weeks beforehand? I try to imagine being cool, calm and collected in the lead up, and no, i have to worry, I have to stress. That’s what makes me prepare, anticipate questions and really know my stuff. Fear of failure is a powerful motivating force.  Maybe it’s about acknowledging that it serves a purpose, it's part of the process, part of the job and remembering, I’m not under water, I can…just….breathe.
BTS: used time lapse on my pixel phone but still wasn’t easy holding my breath long enough for the water to settle. One attempt only and SOOC except for a judicious crop. Regret not using my Leica for better resolution. Also wish I’d been able to capture Tux (my cat)’s expression as I stood up soaking wet, towel out of reach, bathroom a mess. He was all like, Really? Again? What is it about the bath and Sunday nights now? You get all weird, dress in your work clothes and start shifting your studio into the bathroom - that’s not an approved activity. He got so mad at the light stand he actually tried to bite it’s leg off.  Better it than me.

Love how subtle this is yet so unnerving. Almost like those films that build suspense steadily. Those slight drops reveal so much! As a reaction, I am alternating between -I want to drag you out, worried you will drown and watching you as you slowly reveal more. The mind is a strange place. It can inspire, motivate and sometimes drown you. I feel mindfulness might help. It certainly has helped me put things into perspective when the weights have pushed me down. Love this, the ideation but also execution. Glad Tux didn’t attack you?. Hopefully this week’s shoot was on dry grounds.
