Technical: simple setup, with an AD200 aimed pretty much at him from above my camera in a 36" softbox. I went with black and white to convey the mood and expression.     I do like the back and forth look you are going for.

    I wonder if the left and right views could be a tad bit clearer.

    I applaud your exploration of "dragging the shutter". I did a similar exeriment. I like the clear focused main portrait and can see the motion blur of his turning his head to the side. I think opening up your shutter more (I see you at f/16) would have allowed more ambient light to illuminate his face during the turn and freeze.
