“ The Phantom of the Forest ”

phantom - something that seems to appear to the sight but has no physical existence; a figment of the imagination.

This proved to be a bit of a challenge and trying to find something in nature only made it more so. This is an image of a burl or scar on the trunk of a water oak tree...
