    I agree about the difficulty in focusing at night. I think that you have to try the shot, review it in-camera, adjust, review, adjust, review. I just read of using gaffer's tape to lock the focus ring once you get it right so that you don't accidently move it.

    Looks like one of our mentoring shots. The decision to back away and use a longer focal length stuck with you.  My CC: If you had shot at a smaller aperture, like f16 or f22, and focused on the sign, both the city and sign should be in focus.  I also shot a script sign but decided to find a new one.
