I like the idea and the story behind the photograph but as someone who knows nothing about it, I'm not sure that comes across. I think maybe I want to see more of the man and less of the surroundings.

Eric, I like the sentiment you've gone for this week. It's a powerful monument that I've visited and photographed in the past. But I think your edit here doesn't work. Having the left hand and the rope running away from it blurred, while the rest of the arm and most of the body remain sharp is a problem. And the trestles present a strange mix of blurred and unblurred that gets in the way of the photo's impact. Selective focus can be quite a powerful editing tool but it only works with a great deal of care regarding the boundary between what is blurred and what is left sharp.
