“ Gem digging ”
I had such a hard time deciding what to share this week. I knew I was not going to post plants or flowers even though they are such marvelous subjects. Could no find an interesting bug anywhere. But I have a fun collection of geodes. This one I am presenting this week is a small one with silver ...

Here is my poem. I mention in my last stanza Billy Collins.  He was the United States Poet Laureate from. 2001-2003. I took a course with him a few years ago and fell in love with “free style poetry”.  Here it is:               details

Back then when that rock was still whole,
Where silence is more than just the absence of sound,
    Inside an unexpected world hides.
A crystalline universe born from time and pressure,
Reflects the patience of an exploding beauty.

I imagine the geologist on his knees on the ground,
Hammer in hand, sparks from the blow breaking the hard shell to reveal that hidden secret,
A most private constellation unlike anything else ever seen.
These geodes, surprises from our earth lessons in humility teach.

They show us that among the humblest things, these stones that we kick around on the road,
May contain miracles, explosions of color and light,
The evidence that the ordinary hides the extraordinary.

It makes me think that on any ordinary day those days that seem so routine,
In an instance something opens in front of us
Like a geode that distorts the sun’s light,
Show us sparkles of beauty we had never expected to see.

I imagine that Billy Collins would write something like this with a heart warming smile in his face,
Blinking an eye towards the tiny miracles hidden in the mundane,
Showing us that in the end we all are collectors of these brilliant moments
Inside the rocks of our daily lives.

Beautiful picture. The details, light and colours are gorgeous. I might have tried a lower angle to better showcase the figurine. It's a bit difficult to see it. ;)… more
