“ A perspective I can relate to ”
My first thoughts were to take photos where the vanishing point was obvious like railroad tracks (I know were are encouraged not to shoot images standing between tracks), or of a road bending out of sight…blah, blah, bleh (like a friend of mine likes to say). During a walk around our cemetery ...

Looking at this tree standing very close to where Judi and I will be buried when we pass, inspired me to write this poem: PERSPECTIVE

The Perspective of Eighty Two Years

When the youthful impetus no longer stands
That my soul early on fueled,
    Nor the exaggerated glory
That my youthful fever in its glory days fanned
    No longer reigns.
Today I walk in pause as I contemplate the river
Of the days gone by, calm, firm,
I find in the sparkling waters
My fulfilled dreams, just like lost stars.
Lovers persecute , like errand winds
The youth who still regard life in flames,
But I, with a serene heart beat, have found my home
In the face of my love, my true north.
To these loyal arms I return in the evening,
And with the warm and gentle setting sun,
The peace of duty fulfilled sinks into my eyes,
Of loving without haste, without war or complaint.

But the longing does not cease
    To drink from our world’s sweet charm;
Each instant a small prism, a diminutive world
    Where simplicity encloses enormity.
In the the crown of a tree I see a thousand stories
And in the wind a whisper of legends,
And in your beloved face, the memory
    Of unending flowing times, forever!

Oh, my gratitude in this phase shines
A treasure that takes root late in life,
As ambition is no longer the driver
But the knowledge that simple is enough.
Today in the fog of a cold morning,
While breaking bread and touching your hands,
That is when our whole life is revealed,
And in its details we find meaning.

I have reached the top as I look back with no regrets
As in each step I found a certain truth,
And while the top maybe just a shadow
Of something we often call happiness,
Calm arrives and embraces us like a divine mantle,
Providing me with grace, acceptance for the final
    Stretch of our earthly journey.
