Lovely shot. I don't find the window frames distracting, but I think centering them would work a little better. Focus and DOF are great, nicely done!

Due to the symmetry of the batons, I think positioning yourself so the window frame is equally distant from each side would work better to me, Nick.  Yes, backgrounds are challenging.  Since the frames are white they draw attention-without them the set up tells the story. Black and white is a good choice.

Very nicely done.  Wonderful leading lines.  Nice reflection.  I don't mind the window frame as it nicely frames the figurine.  Nice use of depth of field.  I would try to tone down the brightness in the upper right quadrant of the window to see if you can get a little texture our of the window there.  Other than that, very creative and well executed.
