I set the camera on a tripod and used a cable release so as not to shake the camera. I placed a black board on the table and used another black board as the background. The shutter speed was set to .4 sec in order to capture the movement of the dice. This ended up taking around a dozen shots ...

    What a great idea!  I can imagine the clean-up.  I can't seem to ever get my black background clean before I shoot.  It almost looks like the dice are smoking - maybe smoking hot at the craps table.

    Nicely done Shannon, this is harder to get looking good than it seems. I dont know how you did your clean up but I find a quick way to do it when you have a large amount of black is to overlay a black layer and then add a mask to reveal the main subject only using a soft brush - Works well and quickly as long as you have used curves or levels to ensure your blacks are really black - In these sort of shots there are always spots to clean LOL
