I think I satisfied the challenge this week, twofold. I'm a "new" Birder, and the bird in the photo is a new sighting for me, or as some birders may label it, a "Lifer". Allaboutbirds.org says this is the most widespread heron as far as distribution goes. I've seen many a Heron but never this ...
