“ Old Treasures ”
Me Helena. She lives a few houses down from me. She is full of spunk and delightfully posed for me with her rocking chair that has been passed down from generation to generation on her mother's side of the family. Her mother's grandparents moved to America from Germany during the war to get ...

Great story Courtney! And the little girl is adorable. I love the mood of this photo. It looks kind of old and I love that.

This has such lovely lighting and a nice natural pose. I would maybe crop out the tree on the right, or include a bit more of it. Great job with a great story.

What a great story! And I bet her family really appreciates this great picture you took of Helena and this wonderful family heirloom. Your focus and exposure are both really great (no overly bright spots or heavy shadows), and I like Helena's pose and sweet smile that you captured. There are two small suggestions that I would make for the next time you do a shoot such as this. #1. I would increase the exposure just a tiny bit in editing just to make the picture a tiny bit brighter. Now this is based on how the picture appears on my monitor, where it looks a tiny bit dark, but it may not appear that way on your monitor at all. I do have my monitor calibrated, but mine still tends to be slightly brighter than most people's so images usually appear brighter on my monitor than they do on the photographer that edited their shot. And #2. To really keep the focus solely on the model/subject/s, I would suggest using a wider aperture so that the background is really blurry and doesn't take any of the viewers attention away from the subject. I saw in your "about" info that you shoot with both a Canon and a cell phone, but your EXIF info isn't listed so I don't know which you used for this picture. Obviously it would be much harder to achieve the bokeh (heavy background blur) with a cell phone, in which case you would have to add it in post processing.

Anyway, that's my two cents which you can take or leave. ;-)

    Nice job Courtney!
